I am releasing this in it's unfinished stage because I think now is a good time for feedback on the actual game, gameplay, and to find bugs. I am trying to keep not only artwork, but storyline as original as possible. Any and all feedback is welcome, (except change the roads, they are too much work, unless someone else would like to do it for me :P ) At the bottom is a list of the files that have been canged or added, about 270 in 2 patches so far.... VIII) BETA v1_2 README Some parts have been changed in the first readme. A) I mostly ended up going over some of my old stuff I couldn't stand looking at anymore. I think the improvements in graphics help alot. Almost all the resources have been polished. B) Introduced the Ronin system for mercenaries. Now any race can make racial units, if they have the rare "ronin" resource. This is only functional for the first era, as I still need a clone, human, and preferably unique automon racial unit for the second era. C) Right now I am wondering if I should drop the expansionist trait, replace the scout with a worker artillery/ piece, and call expansionist mercenary, and give them some special mercenaries they can hire if they get the ronin resource, like perhaps UU's. Or perhaps I am thinking of making it "Drone master " trait that builds special blitzdrones and raiders that have hidden nationality, and the same colors as "barbarians". D) The game will no longer crash if you win/lose. Yoou'll just see alot of Caesars and Amnon A6E5's in the final victory screens. E) I would suggest playing small map or bigger. It is possible on a tiny map all of the racial "soul towers" do not appear, making two victories impossible. F) Aren't the new advisor screens spiffy? And breathe in the title screen also sometime by choosing new game instead of quit game. :D G) This patch was released only because it was nearing 3 MB, actually it went well over. It in no way signifies any level of completion. When I get another 3-10 MB of artwork done, I'll release v1_3_b H) The Parts Shop graphics are placeholders. IX) BETA v1_3 goals A) I hope to have some sort of unique victory/defeat portraits. This will come hand in hand with the new ruins graphics I plan on making. B) I really want to get all buildings and wonders for the first two eras complete. C) I also want to get Transgalactic's "Heavy Lifter", and Eternal and Teracon's UU finished. X) FUTURE GOALS A) This is not going to happen in Beta v1_3, but I really, really want to overhaul the infantry, so that each race has unique looking, perhaps even unique statistically, infantry. It kind of sucks right now roleplaying as a race of robots with militia men running around going, "woo-hoo!" I am thinking automon have a -10 shield bonus, cyborgs have a variety of special abilities, (like ATAR, or see invisible, ZoC etc...), humans +1 defense, clones +1 HP, and mutants + 1 attack. there are a host of known issues: I. Civilopedia A) I still have tons to do with the civilopedia. More than likely it will mostly be a task I will be working solely on, as far as story goes. I have continuously changed my mind about the overall story as the mod has progressed, so there are quite a few inconsistencies at the moment. B) I have been amazed by the amount of research there is into future technologies. For this, I could use some help if one feels inclined. I am interested not only in sound scientific theory, but fictitious theory as well. C) Artwork, any artist who thinks they could make tech icons that could portray the ideas conveyed in the civilopedia, please feel free to submit them. Once again, I must stress I want original artwork only, or creator's permission, including possible distribution via C.D. I have no intention of profiting from this, but I would like it to be played as widely as possible, since I created it for the enjoyment of the Civ III community. D) Any game crashing errors, invalid file entries, or incorrect links please report them at the thread where you downloaded this mod from . II. Units A) First I must thank the people who let me use their artwork in this mod. You guys saved me alot of time. Due Credit should be in the civilopedia, but if perchance I have missed the opportunity to give you credit, please e-mail me or write a message on the thread you downloaded the mod from, and I will write a correction on the first post. Due to the incredible amount of work I have put into the artwork for this mod, I sincerely understand the desire to be given credit where credit is due. B) You are free to use any artwork, including units, in your mods, however I must insist you give me (NeOmega) credit either in the civilopedia or in the first post of your thread of distribution. The amount of time that would take, pales in comparison to the amount of time it took to create the artwork. C) As I have worked on this project, my art skills have progressed, there are now many units I hope to re-animate in the future. Some of the worst animations are the BattleRAV, laser infantry, rail gunner and many more. Right now I am trying to focus on getting them done. D) Balance is an incredible and important task. I am completely open to any suggestions for balancing the units. There are two guidelines to the racial and unique units. Racial units have a bonus of +1 somewhere, (Like most Civ III UU's), and Unique Units have a bonus of +2. E) This mod comes with 35 previously unreleased units, and a host of units allready released at Civfanatics. III. Buildings A) If you find any blanks in the Civilopedia or notice any misinformation as to the effects of buildings, please notify me. I know there are alot, but frankly, there is still so much to do, and pointing out any mistakes will push me to rectify it post haste. B) The choice of icons for buildings is based not on their regular Civ III counterpart, but on their position on the arial view screen. Case in point, I used the acqueduct's place for urban magrails. C) Feel free to offer suggestions for buildings of the future. This is one of the hardest parts of this mod. IV. Age System A) There are four phases of capturing a planet, Colonization, Expansion, Industrialization, and Domination. B) Colonization: The phase of setting your roots. C) Expansion: Reaching out to secure resources D) Industrialization: Using those resources to solidify your core. E) Domination: Using your core to bind the entire planet under your control. V. Tech Trees A) Colonization: I feel the colonization tech tree is near completion. B) Expansion: This tech tree is looking good right now. I still need to push in "jump pads" so aircraft can upgrade and jump infantry can jump. C) Industrialization: I went through and labeled about 24 techs for this era. Also the units have been metted out to their respective techs, and the focus of the story will be the immortals thirst for power and control of apprentices, the last era may even be about the creation of lower mortal races to work and wage war. This tech tree will sort itself out in time. D) Domination: This tech tree has two techs in it, still needs some work. VI. Victories A) CHANGED for beta v1_2 B) Space victory: The space victory graphics and rules were set up in v1_1, now a good story line.... I just don't think the future time machine makes sense. I am now leaning towards a city of "transdimensionals" or energy beings, perhaps the creation of a new race. C) Diplomatic victory: Diplomatic victory is done. It requires for the player to build four small wonders that require the other four racial soul resources before building the "UN" which requires the player's racial soul resource. All artwork for this is complete D) Cultural victory: I am leaning towards a tech victory here. Basically, once all techs are researched, the player will go on to about 10-20 "future techs", each will give a small wonder or bonus. Perhaps an xtra HP to the OmegaRAV, or a cultural upgrade to megadatas, so they can produce 4 instead of 3 culture. Perhaps I will just fill it out until I've maxed out the techs., but they will be linear and off the science advisor screen. The final tech will allow a mean unit, and a 0 shield wonder which will produce 99 culture a turn, the unit will be deadly and cheap and the game should end in 40 turns at the most. I am thinking the building will be a space ship, and the units will be 0 shield "cruise missile" Ultimate Pancreas Disintigration Rays or something like that. Who knows, it's a long way off. E) I finally edited the pediaicons.txt so placeholders are used for the victory screens. The end will be generic and boring, but better than the alternative. VII. Conquests A) The final PTW patch will hopefully have placeholders for all units and buildings in the next two ages. I have no idea how long it will be before I feel "Expansion" is complete. I do know that once it is complete, "Industrialization" will be in a better state. B) The "illegal" luxury resources can only be seen by their respective race. Once conquests is released I plan to use the newer, more powerful scenario editor to create the units and buildings that will be buildable by using these resources. I plan on redoing Novatlantis and Oceana, I don't like the big towers anymore, and plan on making some underwater looking buildings in nthe city view, but that is last on my list of things to do.
