Possible Outcomes of Herbstnebel

Once you complete the scenario, you should come here to see the "outcome" of your situation:

Decisive Defeat:

Your forces have been badly beaten and bruised by the Allies. The poor commanding of your soldiers and the elements have kept you from attaining even the slimmest of victory. There is no doubt in any soldier's mind now that the Reich is doomed; Allied soldiers have already begun a general counter-offensive across the Rhine and into the heartland of Germany. You have been relieved of your command and given a pistol with a single bullet. The Führer suggests you use it wisely.

Marginal Defeat:

Although you put up quite a fight in the Ardennes, the Americans and their allies have beaten you back substantially, and many of your units are decimated beyond any repair. Holding our gains in the Ardennes will almost certainly be impossible and you will have to answer for your lack of progress in the offensive. We have held off the allied offensive into the Reich by no more than a week or two required to mop up our forces inside of the Ardennes Forest. It is unlikely that we will be able to ever recover from this catastrophe in the Ardennes Forest.

Stalemate:

Operation: Herbstnebel proves to be relatively successful at its onset, but strategically a failure. Germany has wasted its reserve on a desperate gamble and come up short. Although the battle has no decisive outcome during the duration of your command, in the weeks to come, the Allies will no doubt wittle away at our holdings in the Ardennes Forest and we will be forced to retreat back into Germany. At the very least, we have severely delayed Allied action into the Reich and given our country time to raise its defenses.

Our forces, still in fighting spirit, are being gathered up to stop a new Russian threat on the Eastern Front. You have done all you can commander, but it was simply not enough to stop the inevitable. All that is left is war, but the war will go on, thanks to you, General.

Note: You should consider this a partial victory, as this is all the further Germany achieved in real history.

Marginal Victory:

Well Done commander, our forces have managed to severely damage Allied operations in the Western theater. Thousands of allied dead are piled up in the Ardennes Forest, and many American commanders openly speak of their fear of your prowess on the battlefield. Our soldiers, still full of fight thanks to your victories, will continue to hold the area and hamper Allied operations for weeks, if not months to come. Better yet, we will be able to transfer a number of the troops seamlessly to the Eastern Front to easily stop a Russian offensive in progress.

The Führer has invited you to a personal award ceremony where he intends to decorate you for your service to the Reich. Congratulations commander, you have ensured the survival of the Reich for many months to come.

Decisive Victory:

General, the Allied armies continue to rout and flee in front of our Panzers. Our men continue to drive Northward and outward and we have already captured Antwerp. Our offensive has been outstandingly successful and no Allied commanders dare oppose the invincible armies of the Reich. We have trapped tens of thousands of British and American troops in a pocket north of the Ardennes Forest and many are already surrendering.

Your triumphant forces quickly and expertly borded the trains to the East where they also dealt the Russians a swift and stunning blow. Congratulations commander, the combination of your expertise and your forces has lead the allies to begin to quabble about a "peace settlement" in the face of such opposition from Germany. Although the war will surely drag on for years to come, the will of the German people will carry us to ultimate victory.
